That 70s Post

I spent yesterday (Saturday) evening caring for the wigs I've accumulated over the years, and then I put them onto styrofoam heads. After some boredom, I started playing with the heads by adding some of my many pairs of glasses and other accessories. Figured that each day for 4 or 5 days I could post a photo of one of the heads, but naturally I didn't get to editing yesterday's photo until today.

During the process, I was getting frustrated with how boring the photos were, so I started clicking on random things. One of them was this crazy rainbow gradient map I'd made for a previous photo of the day, and it was such an insane but awesome look that I absolutely HAD to keep it. In fact, I had to use it for today's photo too. Here's the result.

Today, my first meeting with the Scarlette|Grey Team (Ohio State's fashion organization). Tomorrow, interview at WalMart's photo center. Now, bedtime since it's 2:14 in the morning. Goodnight!

Fun in the Sun

Today, the weather finally cleared up, and my aunt took us girls to the beach. It was such a fun evening. Hope to have more like it!

Just a week away

This week was the last week of classes, which I've probably mentioned plenty. It was surprisingly busy, but then the weekend hit and things just got surprisingly bad instead. In any case, pictures were taken and now they are to be posted.

Wednesday:
I attended an Honors Luncheon and then went to the sleep specialist to get a prescription for my narcolepsy. Spent that entire evening shopping for much-needed things we'd run out of, and pretty much just crashed once I got home. Snapped this photo as I rushed to the luncheon.

Barking up the wrong tree

Thursday:
Started my new medication and had my final drawing class that day, so I finished up any work I had left. Then went to yet another doctor's appointment and more shopping. Took this during a quick stint at home.

Friday:
My aunt Julie came to visit for the weekend. That day, our water heater exploded (just before she got here, too), but it didn't stop us from having a little fun.

All hail King Apulu Pulu!

Saturday:
Spent the day cleaning and then we went to one of our favorite restaurants. The minute we stepped out, a terrible thunderstorm began. Two of us gals were wearing white shirts... LOL  Anyhow, took this one during a break from cleaning. You know, when the weather SEEMED wonderful.

My fire pit.
This photo made me realize that if we were to ever have a draught and that fire ring got out of control, we'd be screwwwwed...

Finally, Sunday:
I couldn't sleep, so I hung out in my poolhouse until after 3 AM and sang my heart out like I typically do on nights like that. I was horrified to find a little present in my half-empty pool. (I apologize if you have a weak stomach.)

Needless to say, the pool that was already out of order is going to stay that way until it can be thoroughly scrubbed. -gag- Poor baby mouse.

On to finals week!

Cool and Warm

Like the weather lately, my photos for today and yesterday change temperatures.

Yesterday:
I decided to take a quick shot of a bush I was practically getting swallowed by while waiting to take my driver's exam. Guess what? GOT MY LICENSE! Whew.

Today:
Didn't really get a moment with my camera to take a decent photo, so while we waited at a stoplight on the way to class, I snapped this. One day, I'll get back into the swing of this photography thing.

Sleep tight, guys!

The N Word

Narcolepsy: My latest diagnosis. Because evidently scoliosis, asthma, fibromyalgia, chronic depression, psoriasis, and anemia (oh, and there are more that I'm forgetting at the moment) aren't enough ailments. At this point, I just want to curl up in my room and cry, but that wouldn't help anything now would it?

As you can probably tell, I'm a bit distracted. Honestly, I don't care about anything anymore. Not classes, not creativity, not food or fun or even photography. I just want some freaking decent sleep and maybe a little bit of memory.

On a less emo note, I'm going to make my first attempt at getting my license tomorrow afternoon. Wish me luck!

Now for what you're actually here for.

Yesterday's photo: Origin
Ever stop and think about where your bottled water really comes from? Just look up.

Today's photo: Over the Shoulder
I honestly didn't feel like taking a photo today, so while I sat in class, I stuck the camera on my shoulder backwards and snapped until I got something other than a big green blob. LOL

Wishes at Rest

Today I felt like playing with two different methods of color splashing. For this photo, I took one in color and then converted it to BW in-camera. In photoshop, I placed the rectangles over the BW version, pasted the colored version on top, and created a clipping mask. The only other editing done was to Auto Contrast the two photos and add in the tag/quote. Sharpening was done in-camera. :-)

The bottom one is the usual kind of color splash, but again both versions of the photo were made in-camera. I hope you enjoy today's photos.

A Taste of Elegance

Still unhappy with my photos. Tomorrow, perhaps? Definitely going to have to take my photos during the daytime if i want anything even remotely decent. :( Anyhow, have a good night (or day, depending on where you are)!

Music to My Eyes

The past few days have been photographically blasé. It feels like I've been failing all week, but today was more than I could have expected. I am so happy with this set I could squeal. If you don't like it, I completely understand, but for once I shall be content. :D

I now present: Music to My Eyes

The Conductor
The Treble Clef

La Tromba (The Trumpet)
The Diva
Smokopelli the Violinist

This is my first time trying my hand at smoke stream photography, somewhat following this tutorial Sandra sent me to. I used a flashlight to light up the smoke while I focused and then shot with the tut's recommended settings and my flash on. I set my white balance to blue intentionally and shot by hand in my poolhouse. It's definitely something I'll be trying again!

On the Irish and Desirable Veggies

Oh, come on. Who doesn't talk about the Irish and desirable veggies every once in awhile?

It's a story I have to tell because I was thoroughly amused by it, and today was a hard day to amuse my unhealthy self. My Art History professor was showing us photographs from Edward Weston, and someone in the class said, "I don't get it. None of his nudes are sexy. They all look like landscapes!" The professor said to him, "Wait 'til you see what he does with vegetables. Have you ever seen a sexy pepper?" What was just as amusing was that I immediately knew exactly what photo she was talking about. How messed up is that?

You can't tell me you don't love this pepper.

On another note, my Photography class went terribly yet amazingly. I snapped 10-12 photos this morning to finish up the roll of film I wanted to develop, and one of them was quite pleasing to me. I've been trying to practice frame-in-frame shots since that's something I've never really gotten into, and I may or may not have gotten a nice one. The problem is that I forgot to print it. Here's why.

First, I should have checked my reels before I went dark. The two sides of each reel were not matching, so they didn't meet up quite right. I couldn't get my film onto those reels for the life of me. Then, I learned that my particular darkroom doorknob was backwards the hard way-- it should be locked on the outside but unlocked on the inside, yet someone opened up my door while I was in there. It was locked on my side, but whoever opened my door a little spilled light all over my roll.

Once I finally did manage to maneuver the roll onto its reel, I began the developing process. My tank, however, decided that it didn't like its light seal, and the thing fell open even though it had been sealed just fine while I was agitating. Once again, my roll of film was exposed to light prematurely. I asked the professor what he suggested, but he said I might as well trash the roll. Twice exposed is pretty much a death sentence, right?

Wrong! Somehow, that roll managed to come out perfectly fine. Talk about luck of the Irish!!! Even Professor Williams couldn't believe it. However, after all this trouble, I'd used up almost all my class time. I spent the rest of it trying to print a few photos from the beginning of the new roll. How stupid of me. They're all photos from the Photowalk post, only taken with the SLR instead. You've seen them!

Instead of posting my photo of the day TODAY, I'll give you one you haven't seen yet. It was taken last year when I was just learning what White Balance was and how to tweak it. Somehow, it's still a favorite of my friends'. I hope you like it, too!

Down in the... Ditches?

Today was a great day followed by an awful night. I am very excited that I got a box full of photography supplies   I bought last week. RC paper galore!!! And my grandmother got the car fixed, so no more annoying hum all the way to Photography class. Yay!

However, on my way to class, there was something gigantic on the expressway that none of us saw until the car was about to run over it. It not only gave us a flat tire, but also bent our rims. Needless to say, I didn't make it to class seeing as we had no spare and help didn't come for an hour.

Then, to make matters worse, we couldn't get up the steep hill to our home with that donut tire they gave us, so my frustrated grandfather backed off the hill too fast and went right into a ditch. Not just any ditch, though. No, this was a ditch filled with knee-deep water, a streetlight in front of us, and a fire hydrant within four feet of our tail end. The towtruck drivers took almost 2 hours to get there, and then they managed to hit that hydrant with our car. The poor poor car.

I almost forgot to take my photo of the day because I was so frustrated. I did manage to get a semi-interesting texture photo, though. I combined it with an in-camera image overlay from yesterday's set to get this. Hopefully you'll get some use out of it.

Time to go cuddle up in bed with my teddy and my feather pillow (yes, I still cuddle with both of those. It's been a rough night. Leave me alone!). Goodnight, loves!

OH, by the way, I finally found out what model my Nikon SLR is. It's an FM. Good to know! lol

Feeling Outdoorsy

Since I'm feeling outdoorsy (hence the title ;D), I thought I would share with you my favorite photo of the thousands (possibly millions!) that I've taken in the past year. Technically, it's sub-par, but I am still very proud of it. It's my number one portfolio piece thus far. I'd really appreciate any feedback -- positive or negative, of course! I love learning and improving -- you all would give me about it.

As for today, I took a few more photos on my back porch, but this time I gave them the attention they deserved. Hopefully you'll like them, but if not, you can tell me that too. :-) I just wanted to go outside. It was so nice and bright.

Poolhouse Paparazza

It started out with my noticing this...

But once I took the shot, I looked to my right and saw this...

Then, I looked to my left and saw this.

So I climbed out of the empty pool and took these.

But I'm feeling too tired to give them the edits that they deserve-- I didn't even put my stamp on them--, so you get to see them with basic crop and contrast adjustments. Goodnight!

Low... Key?

Did somebody say key?

Kidding. Actually, I forgot to look at the daily challenge today until I already started posting this, so the fact that my first image was a keyboard and my next is in film noir is purely coincidental. I love coincidences!

What I was ORIGINALLY saying is that I spent today photographing my eyeball off with my Minolta, so these are just digital shots I decided to snap while I was using that. My real photo of the day won't be printed until tomorrow. ;)

I took a shot just like this next one with the Minolta for class, and since I didn't feel like having two of the same photo, I decided to play instead. Film noir interests me, so that's the style I tried to mimic. How'd I do?

I hope you enjoy it. Now bedtime!

Still Tired, But More Inspired!

I'm posting now in case I don't get to it later since I'm going out with some friends tonight. It doesn't apply to today's challenge (Make a photograph of something metal or metallic today with an emphasis on how light interacts with the surface.) but I'm hoping to actually do today's challenge as well. If so, this post will be edited. :)

Anyhow, on to the photo!

Used RAW's split toning to make the blue cast and added the stroke (the pinline frame) as an afterthought. I hope it's satisfactory.
